Youth Art Workshop | The Preciousness of Animals

Thursday, January 25, 2024

5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Youth Art Workshops are a monthly class that begins with a 10-minute tour on fourth Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Join us at the Cultural Arts Center for artmaking inspired by art on view in the galleries. This class is designed for children and youth with their caregivers, in addition to all interested creative individuals.

This month, we explore the work of Intentionally Intimate artist Wendi Smith. Her art explores boxes as vehicles for imagery, whether inside or outside. The subject of her work comes from the vanishing natural world and provides a close look at what we all stand to lose.

This class is inspired by her work Advent. The installation of the 24 boxes is a countdown, not to a celebratory event, but to endangered animals. In our class, we will create stamped clay animals and decorate wooden boxes to place them in. These boxes emphasize the importance of these animals and how the world should treat them as precious life.
