Complementing the Carnegie Center for Art and History’s exhibition “Jamey Aebersold: An Improvised Life” we are pleased to offer an acrylic painting workshop to be taught by Kayla Bischoff. There will be a modest and nonrefundable $20.00 fee accompanying each workshop which comes with all paint and supplies provided. Registration is required.

Coinciding with our area’s Winter Break for students, the workshop is set for Wednesday, December 27 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM, is intended for young artists (12 to 18 years of age), and will be held in the Jane Barth Anderson Meeting Room. Maximum class size is 15 students. Kayla will introduce young artists to the process of painting in acrylics and improvising a composition based upon a still life created with jazz instruments.

With a great eye for color and composition, artist Kayla Bischoff is attracting notice for her brushy acrylic paintings which are filled with improvised figures and forms. Acrylic paint offers the artist who loves process the opportunity to work quickly and intuitively, which are among Bischoff’s strengths as an artist. In the short amount of time since Kayla Bischoff graduated magna cum laude from Bellarmine University’s art department, her art has been garnering positive critical attention. Already the subject of two solo painting exhibitions, Bischoff was recently honored with an Honorable Mention Award and a Purchase Award at the 53rd Annual Juried Exhibition at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art in Owensboro, KY. Louisville’s Great Meadows Foundation awarded her a Professional Artist Development Grant to further her career. Bischoff is represented in several corporate collections and is also in the permanent collections of the University of Kentucky and Bellarmine University. Her work is represented in Louisville by Galerie Hertz. A hardworking artist, Kayla Bischoff is also active in the Metro Louisville art scene, is the Gallery Manager for Kaviar Forge & Gallery, and the Director of Communications for Look: Louisville Art Inc.
