Art History Illustrated, Virtual Field Trip: Great Collections of Medieval Art in the USA

Thursday, January 19, 2023

6:30-7:30 PM

Travel the country with art historian Brenda Edgar, without leaving town!  The United States has no medieval history, of course, since it wasn’t ‘discovered’ by Europeans until the late 15th century.  However, there are a number of excellent collections of art, and even some architecture, from the European Middle Ages right here in the states.  Brenda will take you on a virtual tour of the medieval galleries in the Cloisters Museum in New York, the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, and the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio.  Sit back and enjoy this introduction to spectacular stained glass, sparkling enameled gold, exquisite illuminated manuscripts, otherworldly sculptures in ivory, stone, and wood, and much more!

Join us for our “Art History Illustrated” talk series, held the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. This monthly illustrated talk series is presented by art historian Brenda Edgar, in collaboration with the Carnegie Center for Art and History.
