Adult Art Workshop | Papier Mâché Figures

Saturday, January 13, 2024

10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Adult Art Workshops provide a space to explore mediums in art and different techniques for creating. Workshops are open to all experience levels and participants 14 years and older to explore new art-making skills.

This Adult Workshop is inspired by Intentionally Intimate artist Nancy Currier. Picasso said that every child is an artist, and in this same vein, Currier is constantly drawn in by children’s love of colors and patterns, along with their often fictional view of the world. Although Currier started as a ceramicist and weaver, Currier’s main focus now is on the painted object, with her go-to materials being those she frequently used when teaching her young students – tempera, paper, and papier mâché.

Inspired by Currier’s work, this workshop will create flour-based papier mâché figures. Learn to create a wire structure, shape the volume, and apply the binding medium. Will you make a human-like figure or a whimsical character like Nancy Currier?
